How often should you have a well woman check up?

As a general rule of thumb, you should go for a women’s health check annually, but this can vary based on a woman's age, health status, medical history, and risk factors. Here are some guidelines for how often one should have a well-woman visit:

  • Adolescence (13-18 years old): Yearly check-ups to monitor growth, development, and discuss puberty, menstrual health, and sexual health education.

  • Young Adulthood (19-39 years old): Yearly well-woman visits for preventive care, reproductive health, and screenings. This includes pap smears every 3 years.

  • Perimenopause and Menopause Transition (40-64 years old): Annual well-woman visits are generally recommended. Mammograms are usually recommended every 1-2 years, starting at age 40-50, depending on individual risk factors.

  • Post-Menopause (65 years and older): Well-woman visits are still important for overall health monitoring. Mammograms and other screenings may continue, depending on individual health and risk factors.
